Healthcare NGO in Rajasthan | Piramal Swasthya

Rajasthan

Rajasthan is the eighth largest state in India by population. Its geography – sand dunes, rocky terrain, wetlands, etc. – poses challenges for healthcare delivery. Rajasthan fares significantly better than national averages on public health infrastructure; the state has only a small shortage of facilities. With a 61% shortage of specialists at Community Health Centres, Rajasthan is on par with the rest of the country. However, Rajasthan does not perform well on key health indicators. The state’s total fertility rate is 3.3, maternal mortality ratio is 318 and infant mortality rate is 63.

Piramal Swasthya currently operates three programmes in Rajasthan:

  • 104 Medical Advice services receiving 3450 calls per day on an average with a call centre capacity of 20 seats (June 2013)
  • Currently 26 Mobile Medical Vehicles are serving approximately 4.2 lakh population with a total out-patient count of 3,89,551
  • In 2008, eSwasthya was launched and was integrated with Piramal Swasthya services in 2011 serving approx. 1,06,401 patients across 100 centres.

Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Mobile Medical Vahan, Rajasthan
The Project was launched with the purpose of reaching out to the left out and hard to reach areas and therefore promote overall health especially of the poor in the vulnerable areas.
Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) reaches the inaccessible areas and un-approached areas taking healthcare services to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. Under this program there es of service delivery – Medical Mobile Unit (MMU) and Medical Mobile Van (MMV).

  1. Each MMU service consists of two vehicles in each Mobile Medical Unit- a staff and a Diagnostic Van which contains modern instruments and equipment like ECG machine, Ultrasound machine, X-ray machine, Semiautoanalyzer, Auto film processor, centrifuge, microscope, scoop stretcher etc.
  2. Medical Mobile Van has single vehicle which carries staff and equipments in the same vehicle. It has basic diagnostic facilities like glucometer, haemoglobinometer, BP instrument etc.

These vehicles provide medical facilities in the difficult hilly and desert terrain, which are normally not approachable by public transport.

Every MMU provides Curative services like treatment of minor ailments, referral of complicated cases, early detection of diseases etc. Reproductive and child health services are provided in form of Ante-natal check-up, Immunization clinics, post-natal check-up, promotion of institutional deliveries, treatment of common childhood diseases and referral of complicated pregnancies. Family Planning services are also provided. IEC material on health including personal hygiene, proper nutrition, hazards of tobacco, PNDT Act etc. are also circulated through the vehicles.

Currently 26 Mobile Medical Vehicles are serving approximately 4.2 lakh population with a total out-patient count of 3,89,551.
