Karnataka is the Eighth largest state in India by both area & population. Karnataka has about 50% shortage of Community Health Centres and about 32% shortage of specialists at these Community Health Centres.
Despite these shortcomings, Karnataka performs well compared to India’s national averages on key health indicators. The state’s total fertility rate is 1.9 (compared to a national average of 2.4), maternal mortality ratio is 178 (compared to 212) and infant mortality rateis 35 (compared to 44).
Piramal Swasthya launched “104 Arogyavani” Health information helpline to serve the people of Karnataka.
Till date helpline has received 820,009 call and covers a population of 61,095,297.
