Jharkhand has an area of 79,714 sq. km. and a population of 26.9 million. The Total Fertility Rate of the State is 3.The Infant Mortality Rate is 42 and Maternal Mortality Ratio is 261 (SRS 2007 – 2009) which are higher than the National average. The Sex Ratio in the State is 947 (as compared to 940 for the country). About three quarters of the state’s 32.9 million people live in rural areas, many in traditional tribal groups. The population of the state continues to grow at a much faster rate than the national rate and health infrastructure in struggling to keep pace with it.
To meet the needs of citizen Government of Jharkhand launched 104 Chikitsa Salah Health Information Helpline with Piramal Swasthya as its operating partner. 104 Chikitsa salah is a 20 seater Health Information Helpline operating 24 x 7, throughout the year for patient utility. The call centre is located in Ranchi and can handle a call volume of 2500 calls a day. Citizens of Jharkhand can dial the number 104 from any of the 24 districts from their mobile or landline.
